Founded in 1921 in Manhattan by Romanian-born Lazrus brothers, Benrus quickly made its mark on the watch industry, gaining the support of icons like Babe Ruth, Charles Lindbergh, and Steve McQueen. The brand was a pioneer in innovation and marketing, and in 1927 made history by appointing Alice Christian as CEO, selling over a million watches per year.
This year, Benrus is making a strong comeback with the support of Romanian partner Ion Schiau, reintroducing some of its most celebrated models. Highlights include the DTU-2A/P, a 1964 military watch reissued in 2025 with a modern automatic movement, the Type I and Type II worn by U.S. Navy SEALs and Army Rangers, and the Benrus #3061, a reissue of the watch worn by Steve McQueen in Bullitt.
