Rediscovering a Forgotten Pioneer: Alice Christian and the Legacy of BENRUS in La Chaux-de-Fonds
Featured in a recent article, historian Rossella Baldi sheds light on the remarkable yet long-overlooked story of Alice Christian — a pioneering businesswoman and a key figure in BENRUS history.
Born in Le Locle in 1891, Alice Christian was appointed head of the BENRUS branch in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1927. At a time when women rarely held leadership roles in the watch industry, she became one of the first to do so, leading the local branch through several decades, from the 1920s to the 1960s.
Her story, nearly lost to time, resurfaced following the announcement of BENRUS’s return to La Chaux-de-Fonds in March 2025. As we look ahead, we also honour the women who shaped our past.
Through the work of historian Rossella Baldi, BENRUS is proud to help restore Alice Christian’s rightful place in horological history.
